How UV wall printing works

The printer arrives on a wheeled base and is positioned against the wall, running on a vertical rail so the print head can travel up and across the surface. It lays the image down in passes, and a bank of LED-UV lamps cures each pass instantly — the ink is solid before the head returns. Because nothing needs to soak in or air-dry, colour stays exactly where it is placed and the surface is touch-dry the moment the pass is complete.

Resolution is high enough for photographic images and fine line art, which is why the process handles portraits, landscapes, illustration and typography equally well. The practical limit on any single print is how far the printer can travel: width is extended by repositioning the unit along the wall, and height is set by the machine's vertical travel. We measure your wall before printing and plan the passes so joins fall where they will not be read.

What surfaces can be printed

Painted drywall is the most common surface, followed by plaster, concrete, brick, glass, wood, metal, aluminium composite, canvas and foam board. What matters is condition rather than material: the surface must be clean, sound and reasonably smooth. Loose or flaking paint, damp, and dusty masonry all need attention first.

Texture is the one thing worth thinking about carefully. Light texture is fine and often adds character. Heavy texture — deep knockdown, coarse stucco, exposed aggregate — softens fine detail, so bold graphics and illustration read better on those walls than a detailed photograph would. How to prepare your wall

Good prep is the difference between a good print and a great one. Patch any holes and dents, sand the repairs flush, and wipe the wall down so it is free of dust, grease and cobwebs. If the design is light-toned or photographic, a light base coat gives the ink a neutral ground to sit on and keeps highlights clean — a dark existing colour will otherwise influence the result.

You do not need to guess at any of this. We look at the wall photo during the preview stage and tell you exactly what, if anything, needs doing. Where prep is more involved, the licensed construction side of our organisation can handle it.

How to prepare your artwork

Logos and typography should be supplied as vector files (AI, EPS, PDF or SVG) so they stay crisp at any size. Photographs and illustration should be 150–300 DPI at the final print size; TIFF, PNG and high-quality JPEG all work. If your file is smaller than that, send it anyway — we will tell you honestly how large it can be printed before detail suffers.

If you do not have finished artwork, that is normal. Many projects start with a reference image, a mood board or a written description, and our design team develops it into a print-ready file that you approve before anything goes on the wall.

What installation day looks like

Clear furniture away from the wall and give us access to a standard outlet. The printer is wheeled in, levelled and aligned to the wall, and printing begins. How long it runs depends on the size of the wall and the ink coverage of the design — a graphic accent wall is quick, a full-coverage photographic wall takes longer.

The ink is low-odor and UV-cured, so there is no solvent smell hanging in the room and no drying time to wait out. When the last pass finishes we check the edges, clean up, and walk the finished wall with you. The room is usable right away.

Durability and care

A cured UV print is designed for long-term interior use; actual lifespan depends on the surface, light exposure and care. The finish is scuff-resistant and wipes clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent, which is what makes it practical in corridors, kitchens and children's rooms. When the space changes, the print is primed and painted over like any other wall finish.

Cost is driven by the printed area, how much ink coverage the design needs, the amount of surface prep required, whether design work is needed to build the artwork, access and working height, and travel within the Los Angeles area.
